We did a lot of stuff during our first week here in Washington! Dal has to work 14-hour days Monday through Friday, but (luckily) the 4th of July is a big deal around here so he had Thursday and Friday off!
My parents stayed for 1 day after they drove us here before the flew
back to SLC. The first evening we went to Gig harbor to walk around and
get dinner. Cal learned the word 'boat' while we were there and probably
said it 100 times in 2 hours. He loved it.
The next day we went with my parents to Defiance Park and rode a ferry to an island over there. Cal loves boats and birds, so he was happy. I had to drive my mom and dad to the airport after lunch and I was so sad to see them go :( Glad they go to see where we are staying!
Dallin's cousin Patrick lives about 10 minutes from where we are staying and they have a little boy who is exactly Calvin's age! We have spent a lot of time this week with them and are glad to know someone here.
Before dinner on Wed night |
Cal and I went exploring in downtown Olympia while Dallin was at work on Wed. and we found the coolest park! We walked around Priest point park for a while and I felt like we were in a forest- I cannot believe how tall the trees are here.
We drove into Seattle after Cal's nap on Thursday... neither of us had ever been there! We did the touristy stuff (pike place and the space needle) and walked around. It is such a cool city. We met up with Natalie and her boyfriend and a super delicious burger place afterwards and they took us to Gas Works park. It had a way cool view of the city! Cal mostly wanted to go down the hill the whole time and I felt like he was going to roll down into the water... but he didn't. It was fun to see Nat!
The base has a lot of cool parks and Cal has been loving them.
We started off the 4th of July with a ward breakfast with Dal's cousin. Afterwards we went to a fair at the base. It was fun, but also really crowded. The highlights for Cal would be the horses and play-drum thing.
The evening of the 4th we went camping with Patrick, Danielle, and Tristian. They were so nice to let us mooch off of all of their camping stuff, since we don't really have anything here. It was a blast and Cal did great. He doesn't always love other little kids, but he gets along super well with Tristian and so that made it really fun. Cal woke up once during the night, but I brought him into bed with me and he slept until 9! It has probably been over 6 months since he has slept next to me and I was in heaven. In the morning, Patrick made a yummy breakfast for us, then we hiked around and shot bows and arrows. I came home with exactly 30 mosquito bites and somehow Cal got 0.
The next day we drug Dallin to our beloved Priest Point park. We were able to go farther because Dal can carry cal farther than me. It was beautiful again.
Also, I parked here.
Lastly... this.
